Anyone out there going to an Ugly Christmas sweater party this year? We host one every year, and last year I was oh so pregnant that I had to make a custom Maternity Snow Globe Sweater to fit over that big belly of mine. This year I scored a very fancy Micky Mouse sweater from a thrift store, but my hubby was lucky enough to get his own custom made sweater.
The best thing about making your own ugly Christmas sweater is that you can pretty much do whatever you want to it, and if you screw up, then it just adds to the charm. However, if you need a little more guidance for a DIY sweater then let me help you out.
What you will need:
- Red sweater
- White and black felt
- Orange, black, and white pom poms
- Glue gun
1.Cut Out Your Snowman
Fold your white felt in half, then cut 3 half circles. For some reason my brain couldn’t figure out the top circle (see embarrassing DIY picture below) but thats ok because the top snowball just gets covered by a hat anyways.
With your black felt cut out a top hat, two long strips to make your snowman arms, then four smaller strips for the snowman fingers? Is that what they are….ummmm….lets just call them the snowman hands!
When your felt is cut out, use your glue gun to apply it to the sweater…but be carful not to melt frosty…hahaha (mom joke).
2. Pom Poms
Use your orange pom pom for the nose and your black ones for the buttons. If you have an excess amount of black pom poms you could also add some eyes and a mouth, but due to Tiny Human #1 having a crafting addiction it was hard enough to scrounge up 3 black pom poms.
Next ‘let it snow, let it snow, let it snow’. Cover the rest of your sweater in white pom poms to finish off your winter wonderland scene!
Now your dressed to impress! Did you make your own ugly Christmas sweater this year? If so, add a picture in the comments, I would love to see what you came up with!
