How much do you love thrift stores? If the answer is 6 fun flamingo cocktail forks out of 6, then I’m pretty sure that you and I were meant to be best friends. Thrifting is one of my favourite past times, and o man don’t even get me started on garage sale season.
So today I thought I would share with you my latest pick-up, because well, this is my blog so I get to write what I want, and today I wanna talk about flamingos and pineapples (isn’t that just the best combination)!
Awesome Pick Up # 1
A full set of flamingo cocktail forks. Retail price(at a thrift store) …75 cents! Now I know what you guys are thinking, ‘who in their right mind would ever get rid of these?’ and I totally agree with you.
Now if you don’t know what to do with fun cocktail skewers then let me help you out. You make fun cocktails, or in my case, fun mocktails. Since I’m using flamingos today I figured what better drink than the classic Shirley Temple. It is 100% kid friendly, pregnant lady friendly, and delicious.
How to Make a Shirley Temple
- Fill a glass with ice. 2. Pour orange juice in half the glass. 3. Fill the rest of the glass with sprite. 3. Top with a little bit of grenadine. 4. Don’t forget the cherry on top.
Awesome Pick Up # 2
A tacky pineapple cup someone must have bought in Hawaii. Retail price (at a thrift store)…50 cents! What a steal. This is one of those cups you see in tourist towns. You know, buy the drink and keep the cup (you see them all over Vegas), but this cup had an added feature, a slit on the top so the cup now doubles as a piggy bank…pure genius.
Now it didn’t look like much, but wow was I excited, and here is why. Pineapples are fun, and pretty much anything ugly can be transformed with a coat of gold spray paint. All I did with this little guy is two coats of gold spray paint, and then where the restaurant logo use to be I did two coats of chalkboard paint. TADA. Now I have an adorable piggy bank to stash away my pennies for a tropical vacation, even though I’m sure it will be way…way in the future (kids are a real vacation buzz kill).
There you have it, my two major thrift store finds of the weekend. I absolutely love my new scores, and it just goes to show that with a little imagination you can turn the tackiest of tourist pieces into gold (literally).
If your not a thrifter, then I encourage you to grab a friend, a coffee, and go check out your local thrift stores. Usually all profits go towards a good organization, and who knows, you may even find a shirt with a cat shooting laser beams out of its eyes…because I did!
If your an avid thrifter such as myself, let me know what your latest and greatest score was.
