28 Feb Pomegranate Moscow Mule Mocktail
Pregnancy Problem- When you get together with friends you are often stuck watching them enjoy a nice bottle of Pinot Noir while you sit there with your Shirley Temple. No offence Miss Temple, when I was 10 I loved you, but your sugary blend of sweetness just isn’t cutting it for me anymore.
Let me introduce you ladies to a virgin Moscow Mule. Never herd of this drink before? Ok here comes a cocktail history lesson! The Moscow Mule is a cocktail that was invented back in the 40’s as a result of a bartender who couldn’t get rid of his stock of ginger beer, the owner of Smirnoff, who couldn’t gain sales in vodka, and a women from Russia trying to sell copper mugs in America to make a living. Put these people together, add a twist of lime, and voila, magic happened. Soon this cocktail was being enjoyed across the county.
Now many believe that the popularity of this drink came from the fact that it was only to be consumed in a copper mug, making it a ‘specialty drink’ for people to consume. There had also been talk that the lime creates a reaction with the copper making a more unique taste. My thoughts…adding the lime makes the drink taste more limey (…maybe a real word, maybe not).
That being said, I am a sucker for good marketing, and slightly obsessed with drink glasses, so if you have any copper mugs around the house (doesn’t everybody), then here is your chance to pull them out for a refreshing drink.
- Pomegranate Juice
- Ginger Beer
- Copper Moscow Mule Mug
- Fill your mug with ice.
- Instead of vodka, add two ounces of pomegranate juice.
- Fill the mug with spicy ginger beer
- Add a lime wedge
- Soon you will notice your mug getting extra cold, yay this is the magic of the copper mug.
I am so obsessed with this drink right now, and after your first sip you’ll defiantly understand what all the hype was about back in the 40’s. Plus, when I’m drinking one of these I finally feel like I can sit at the big kid table again!
