In January of this year, Tiffany was asked to help out with her daughters Kindergarten class fundraiser. She created five pieces of beautiful art that were made up of smaller pieces, and the response was overwhelming with the parents outbidding each other. The success of the fundraiser gave Tiffany an idea to create beautiful pieces of jewellery in the same way.
In the beginning Tiffany faced a steep learning curve, but she kept her eye on the prize and slowly noticed her life story was being expressed through her art. In the end, Wholeheartedly was created as a unique way for women to express their own stories.
Tiffany has gone through many obstacles in her life, but always shared her experiences, in the hopes that her stories could motivate and uplift those around her. Her jewellery designs have been another expression of who she is and what she has been through.
How long have you been in business, and what inspired you to get started?
All too often women let their life experiences hold them back. Saying, I could never do what you did, or they say “Oh, I’m so sorry you went through that,” rather, our hearts are full of ups and downs, good and bad and its all of these that make us who we are, so let’s share our stories. Tell a story with the pieces of your heart — that’s our tagline. Our hearts are not broken, they are WHOLE.
I spent 15 years in my past marriage that wasn’t bad by any means – the problem was that I wasn’t being true to myself. I put on a persona of someone else and found out that I really didn’t know who I was. I’ve come into more of my true self now and I have a 6 year old daughter Gabby, who keeps me honest. She is the one who I want to set the example for and show what being a strong woman is like.
What are your favourite pieces and what inspires your creativity?
In its most simple style, I love my branded geometric heart outline. It comes on the dainty necklace, on post earrings and bracelet & anklets. I’ve never been a “hearts” girl so I wanted to create one that I liked with a little more of a modern style. I feel it embodies a heart that’s been through experiences. It still represents the overall meaning of a heart; femininity, sensuality, unity, love, etc. however it stands a little stronger in its geometric shape.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs looking to start their own business?
Just do it! I’ve oftentimes heard so many people say, if you can’t stop thinking about it, you must just go for it.
This next one is a HUGE, and still sometimes hard for me to do, but trust yourself. It has been a learning process for me to trust in myself and build confidence in knowing what I’m doing is good, even great. I’ve spent SO much time constantly asking people’s opinions about every nuance of what I’m doing, to the point that it’s exhausting not only for me but for others. What happens then, is everyone wants to give their opinions, and you’ll never please everyone. My manufacturer advised me to do what makes ME happy and follow that, it’s been the best pieces of advice thus far.
Don’t let other people pull you down. Stay focused on your own track and keep going. Find one person you can really truly trust to vent to, cry it out with or give you a quick pep talk if you’re having some negative thinking. Allow them to lift you up so you can pickup and get the wheels back in motion.
At the end of the day what makes you smile?
If I’m able to inspire even just one woman to follow her dreams then my job is done. It brings such a huge smile to my face, and sense of satisfaction when people tell me they are inspired by me. This is why I want to be able to give a portion of my proceeds to help support women entrepreneurs. I want women to realize that the pieces of their heart, and their life experiences make them amazing women, and they can do anything they put their minds to. –
