Interview with Nest and Nurture

image3.JPGThis Friday I am excited to be featuring the talented Yolanda Abraham of Nest and Nurture. This busy mother and wife is the owner of a boutique children’s line that specializes in all things tiny and adorable. From vintage style bonnets to bubble jumpers, Nest and Nurture has you covered.

Yolanda got into sewing back in 2010 while recuperating from cancer treatments. She used sewing as a distraction from what was going on personally and immersed herself in design. This lit a creative fire within Yolanda and guided her in the direction of Nest and Nurture. Over the past 6 years she has been perfecting her designs and selling her line at local crafters markets as well as online at Nest and Nurture.

What are your favourite pieces to make?

I LOVE creating all the pieces, but I am most proud of my bubble jumper pattern. I am inspired by clothing that is unique, but still functional and practical. Almost all my pieces have room to grow, so they last a long time.

How would you describe your style?

My style changes and evolves by the minute. I am a lover of hard-working staple wardrobe pieces that can withstand a lot of love, and pairing them with soft, delicate pieces that are special and unique. I like to design items that can be styled for multiple seasons, and for multiple tastes.

What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs looking to start their own business?

Starting a business is exhausting. I have never worked harder than I do now, making it difficult to find balance. If I am not at a market, I am sewing, planning, or designing. On top of that I’m also a full-time mom, and busy taking care of our house while my husband works away. It is a very busy lifestyle but my friends have been incredibly supportive and understanding, which means the world to me. The saying “find your tribe” rings true for me every single day. Find a mentor. Surround yourself with supportive, like-minded people and it will make ALL the difference!

At the end of the day what makes you smile?

My joys are very simple. Obviously my daughter and hubby. I am obsessed with thrifting, fabrics, and new sewing techniques. I find incredible happiness in meeting all the other creatives I have the pleasure to cross paths with.

These one of a kind, handcrafted pieces are extraordinary. Please lets show this talented artist some love.
