Crafter Interview-Zentangled by Claire

One of the reasons why I started a blog is not only to talk about crafts and make delicious drinks (although I do enjoy both), I also wanted to feature some of the local talent and small businesses that are around. These people are helping to create a more beautiful world through their passions, whether it be through paintings, jewellery, clothing, or local roasted coffee. Each craft has a story and I wanted to help showcase their talents.

Over the Christmas holidays I put on a craft show at my house that features products from people around the community. One of the young talents I’ve had the pleasure of working with is Claire, and this summer she has decided to start selling her original art. When I found this out I knew she had to be the first feature on Modern Day Wonderland! Claire showed up for the interview with a big smile on her face, rocking a Minnie Mouse t-shirt, and dozens of brackets on her arms (later she confessed that jewellery is her weakness).  Her quirky laid back style and cheerful personality are defiantly reflected in her paintings.

Claire loves to paint with bright fun colours, but her favourites to work with are blues, purples, and glitter (I think everyone has a soft spot in their hearts for glitter)! She also loves to add metallics onto her paintings which give them a pop of shine. Another interesting technique she uses is zentangle (small intricate pattern and design work) that she incorporates into her water colours.

I have seen Claire sew and make projects from wood, but her favourite medium to work with is paper. She enjoys making collages, 3D pop art, and now loves painting. Of course the question every artist gets, and I also had to know is what inspires her? Claire enjoys the fact that art gives her ‘the freedom to do whatever she wants, and explode it on paper’. I love this description because art is rarely a clean and precise process, it is an explosion of emotion and creative thinking.

The mix of water-colour, metallics, and zentagle, makes these one of a kind pieces a must have. This summer Claire is creating and selling 5 X 7 originals for $11 dollars (shipping included)! If you would like to purchase a piece please message me in the ‘say hello’ section and I will make sure you will get your own one of a kind.

If you have a small business and would like to be featured on Modern Day Wonderland, send me a message in the ‘say hello’ section. I would love to talk!
