11 Jul Jalapeño and Grapefruit Margarita
Do you love tequila? I’m not talking about the cheap stuff you crack open to chase down a worm in hopes of forgetting about the past week. I’m talking about the good stuff you splurged on in Mexico and pull out to sip on every once and a while (yes there is tequila that some people drink to enjoy).
Ok maybe your not into sipping tequila straight up, but how about the always classic margarita? If the first thing that comes to mind is a glowing neon green bottle of liquid sugar you add some tequila to, then I’m sure a margarita doesn’t sound appealing, but todays drink will change your mind about the way you think of margaritas.
If your a tequila lover like me then you are going to go crazy over this next drink. This grapefruit infused bevy is bursting with citrus flavour, while the jalapeño adds a subtle heat. This refreshing twist on the classic margarita will have you hugging your friends and telling them how much you love them in no time.
What you will need:
- Good Quality Tequila
Step 1- Rim your glass with a lime wedge, then dip the glass in course salt. I used a hibiscus salt that I found at a local market. If the salt is too…salty for you, add a few dashes of sugar to your mix before dipping your glass.
Step 2- In a shaker add 1 oz…or more (no judgement) of tequila…good tequila (if your bottle says Jose Cuervo then for the love of god just throw the bottle out). Add 3 oz. of lemonade, squeeze in half a lime, and 1/4 of a large pink grapefruit. Cut your jalapeño into medallions and add one slice, this will give you just the hint of flavour. If you want some heat add two pieces with the seeds in them. You are going to get heat from your seeds, and the flavour from the flesh.
Step 3- *Shake, shake, shake*
Step 4-Strain over ice and top with a splash of soda.
I hope you enjoy this cocktail as much as I do. Don’t forget to let me know how yours turn out, and who you confessed your love to after a couple.
